Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why don't I see a preview before completing my order?

Our cards are truly custom and creative and our designers can do what computers are not able to automatically.  Due to the complexity of our cards, orders and proofs must be individually created by one of our designers. We offer intricate photo card designs that cannot generally be reproduced by a computer system or website application.  Difficult Photoshop techniques are used for many of our card designs, and can only be done by hand by a trained designer.

Once we have received your order, a designer will quickly and carefully put together your proofs and e-mail them to you for review. We will appropriately space your text and place your photos as best as possible in the allotted spaces.  Once you receive your proofs, you have an opportunity to request changes and will then receive a second set of free proofs reflecting the changes. Your cards will only be sent to print once you approve of the proofs.

If you have special instructions for our designer, you can make these requests in the "order comments" box during checkout and we will do our best to accommodate your requests.

We thank you for understanding how Photo Card Chef orders must be handled in order to provide more unique and intricate photo card options for our valued customers. We ask that you also read our terms and conditions carefully before ordering to learn more about the proofing process and expectations for a successful first proof.

Please be aware that proofs are NOT available before your order is processed.
You will have the opportunity to request changes and see another set of free proofs once a designer has e-mailed your proofs after your order has been submitted.

  2. Why is the price of my cards different in the cart than on the product page?

When you select a premium finish type before adding your selection to the cart, your price is adjusted above.  Sometimes as you scroll down to add multiple photos, text and options, the price scrolls off the screen so you will need to scroll up to see the updated price.  Read on to learn more about the different finish types available on our cards.

  3. Can I re-order if I run out of cards?

Yes, but you’ve gotta be quick! We will keep your card on file for 1 month. After that point, you will need to begin the process again. Order again through the website 'from scratch,' but instead of re-entering the text and photos, simply type your old order number in the text boxes. No photo uploads are needed. We will then pull your file and send the cards to print right away. If you need minor changes to your reorder (different date, extra text, etc.), then put those requests in your order comments box during checkout and we will create new proofs for you.

  4. What is Difference Between the Different Finish Types?

Smooth Matte is a flat matte card with a smooth, untextured finish. The card stock is 110#.

Semi-Gloss is just as it sounds. The finish is semi-glossy. This card stock is 110#.

High Gloss UV-Coating can be added to your cards to protect from sun damage and scratches.  The coating gives the cards a heavier, thicker feel, while making your photos more crisp and clear.  Most of our customers add the High Gloss UV-coating to their cards to create a more "high-end" result. This card stock is 110# with added weight from the UV Coating for a thicker card.

Pearl UV Coating gives your cards a shiny, shimmery, pearly sheen, while still protecting from minor scratches and sun damage. The Pearl coating is a stunning option and is for those who want to truly impress their guests with their wedding invitations. This card stock is 110# with added weight from the UV Coating for a thicker card.

Matte "Watercolor Paper" Card Stock looks like the cards have been printed on a thick watercolor paper. The card has a slight texture to it and is a matte finish. This card stock is 90#.

Matte Linen Texture literally has a slight cross-hatch linen feel. The linen texture is a matte finish. This card stock is 80#.

Matte Recycled is a perfect way to go green with your wedding invitations. The card stock is 100% recycled and is 100# weight. The cards are bright white with very minimal flecks of 'recycled paper' in it.  The finish is completely smooth matte with no texture. We can add our green arrow recycle logo on the back upon request at no charge to show others you've gone green for your wedding

Note: The special shaped cards are all printed on 90-100lb card stock.

  1. How will the Photo Card Chef get my photos?

It it important to read the "More Photo Information" tab before ordering. Photos are uploaded on each product page prior to adding the product to your shopping cart.

Please verify that your photos are saved as JPG files before you try to upload them.  Our web site image upload capability will only accept photos in JPG format.  If you are trying to upload photos in an unsupported format (TIFF, PNG, GIF, BMP, PDF, DOC etc) they will fail to upload properly.

NOTE: Make sure your images are the highest resolution possible.  High resolution images will produce crisp and beautiful prints.  Images borrowed from Facebook, cell phones or those that have been resized will produce grainy/fuzzy prints.

If you are having trouble uploading photos, please read the FAQ titled "My Photos Won't Upload" below for for more information.

  2. What size/resolution do my photos need to be?

Higher resolution photos will look amazing on your invitations but low resolution images can turn out grainy. For best results, each photo image file needs to be between a 900KB and 10MB and in JPG format. A bigger size will produce a better product. Sometimes it may take awhile to upload large, high resolution images to the website so please be patient as we are at the mercy of the internet (sometimes it is pokey).

We do not recommend using scanned photos, as photo quality is usually too low to reproduce a nice, high quality product.

If you are having trouble uploading photos, please read the FAQ titled "My Photos Won't Upload" below for for more information.

  3. Can I use any card design as a wedding invitation?

Yes!  Just because a card is listed under a category like graduation cards doesn't mean you can't use the design as a wedding invitation.  Any card on the site can be used for any occasion.  We often have customers use their own creativity to customize an existing design to make it their own, that is what is fun about using the Photo Card Chef, you get to have everything just how you want it and you get to express your style.  Turn a wedding announcement into a graduation announcement, turn a holiday card into a wedding announcement, the sky is the limit.

  4. How long will it take to get my proofs?

You are allowed two free proofs.  Your first set of proofs will be sent to your e-mail within 48 hours during business days if you select standard proofing. We also offer a 24-hour proof option and a same-day proof option during checkout. Once you receive your proofs, you can request changes, correct mistakes, or make other adjustments to your cards (such as photo cropping or placement).

After you have submitted the requests, it may take 24-hours during business days to make the changes and send out your second set of free proofs. After your free proofs if additional changes are required, additional proofs will be $10.00.  We require that you approve your proofs before we can send to print. Once you have approved the proof, your order will be submitted for printing.

  5. What if I don’t receive my proof within 48 business hours?

It might be a weekend or a holiday, so check again on the next business day. Another possibility is that your spam filter may have blocked the e-mail.  Look for emails from PhotoCardChef.com and make sure we are in your allowed/safe list. If you don't receive the proof, please let us know and we will gladly resend it.

Please use our contact form to inquire about your proofs.  You may want to provide an alternate e-mail address if you are having trouble getting our emails. Many times customers enter the incorrect e-mail address or phone number during checkout so we are unable to contact them.  Don't forget to include your order # in your when you fill out the contact us form.

  6. What if I decide I want to use a different card design after viewing my proofs?

No problem, just be aware that for complete card changes, an additional $25.00 will be charged on your order. The first two proofs are free - each additional proof thereafter will be a charge of $10.00.  Please be as specific as possible with your directions, and as accurate as possible with your card text.

  7. How long until I get my order? Is there tracking information?

We can ship quickly but printing takes time!  In the US, all cards except for return address labels and magnets are shipped via UPS ground and will take up to 7 business days to arrive. We also offer a 2 business day shipping option, and an overnight shipping option. Ship times do NOT include print time, which usually take 48 business hours. International orders may take up to 24 business days to arrive.  Tracking information is available upon request only.

  8. What postal provider will deliver my order?
